Unity Party Chairman Rev. Dr. Luther Tarpeh Defends Boakai Administration, Calls for Swift Conclusion of US$19 Million Drug Investigation

Monrovia, Liberia – Unity Party National Chairman, Rev. Dr. Luther Tarpeh, has defended the performance of the Boakai administration while calling for the speedy conclusion of the investigation into the recent seizure of suspected narcotics valued at nearly US$19 million at Roberts International Airport (RIA).

Speaking during a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Broad Street on Friday, July 10, 2026, Rev. Dr. Tarpeh said the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai remains firmly committed to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, while continuing to make steady progress in addressing Liberia’s economic, governance, and development priorities.

Commenting on the ongoing drug investigation, Rev. Dr. Tarpeh described the interception of the suspected cocaine shipment as evidence that Liberia’s security institutions are becoming more effective in combating transnational organized crime. He praised the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), the Joint Security, and other state institutions for their coordinated efforts in intercepting the shipment.

The Unity Party chairman stressed that everyone connected to the case would be investigated without exception, regardless of political affiliation, financial status, or social influence. He emphasized that there would be “no sacred cows” in the investigation and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to working with international partners to combat narcotics trafficking and money laundering.

While commending the work of the security agencies, Rev. Dr. Tarpeh urged the Joint National Security Investigation Team to conclude its investigation as quickly as possible, warning that prolonged delays could undermine public confidence in the justice system. He said Liberians deserve a transparent and timely outcome, adding that anyone found responsible should face the full weight of the law.

Beyond the drug investigation, Rev. Dr. Tarpeh praised the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for commencing salary payments to civil servants on July 2, 2026, describing the move as a reflection of improved fiscal discipline that supports household incomes, stimulates economic activity, and strengthens confidence in government.

He also commended the government’s management of the petroleum sector, noting that despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East and volatility in global oil markets, Liberia has maintained a stable fuel supply while implementing measures that have helped reduce pump prices.

On infrastructure, Rev. Dr. Tarpeh applauded President Boakai for breaking ground on the proposed four-lane highway linking the Gabriel Tucker Bridge, St. Paul Bridge, and Bo Waterside, describing the project as a major investment expected to improve transportation, enhance road safety, facilitate trade, and drive economic growth.

The Unity Party chairman reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing its development agenda, emphasizing continued investments in infrastructure, economic stability, and institutional reforms aimed at improving the lives of Liberians.
