SENATOR SNOWE EXPRESSES REGRET, WITHDRAWS REMARKS MADE DURING SENATE HEARING‎

Monrovia, Liberia – Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. has issued an apology to Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) Executive Director Samuel Nagbe and withdrawn comments he made during a recent Senate hearing, acknowledging that the remarks were made without recognition from the Presiding Officer and contrary to the Standing Rules of the Liberian Senate.

‎In a statement released Friday, Senator Snowe said he reached out to Mr. Nagbe to express his regrets over the statement made during Thursday’s sitting, noting that both parties had a constructive conversation.

‎“This morning I reached out to Mr. Samuel Nagbe and expressed regrets about the statement made to him during yesterday’s sitting, and I believe we had a good conversation,” Senator Snowe stated.

‎The Senator further disclosed that he has formally communicated with the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate and his colleagues, withdrawing the remarks in recognition of the procedures and regulations governing legislative proceedings.

‎“I have also addressed a letter to the President Pro-tempore and my distinguished colleagues withdrawing those comments I made without recognition by the Presiding, the President of the Senate, in violation of our Standing Rules,” he added.
‎Senator Snowe thanked Mr. Nagbe and his colleagues for their understanding and described their response as an act of magnanimity.

‎The development follows a heated exchange during a Senate hearing involving Mr. Nagbe, who was summoned to appear before lawmakers over concerns surrounding comments he made on social media regarding an ongoing drug investigation.

‎The senator’s apology and withdrawal of his remarks highlight efforts to restore parliamentary decorum and maintain respect for the rules and traditions of the Liberian Senate.
