Maryland Superintendent Seeks Public Works Ministry’s Support for Road Paving Projects

Superintendent Nathaniel Toe calls for stronger government collaboration to accelerate road rehabilitation and paving across the county.

MONROVIA, Liberia — Maryland County Superintendent Nathaniel Toe has called for stronger collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works to advance road paving and rehabilitation projects across the county, as residents continue to look toward improved road infrastructure.

Toe made the appeal during a working visit on October 4, 2026, to Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Public Works, Hon. Samuka Dunnoh.

During the meeting, the county superintendent acknowledged the ministry’s efforts to improve road infrastructure, particularly the deployment of heavy-duty construction equipment, commonly known as the yellow machines, to Maryland County through collaboration with the Special Presidential Project Committee.

With the equipment now deployed in the county, Toe stressed the need to translate the intervention into tangible road development, urging the ministry to prioritize the rehabilitation and paving of major roads.

He also disclosed that his administration has identified several roads across Maryland County for possible implementation, underscoring the importance of coordination between the county administration and the central government.

For his part, Deputy Minister Dunnoh commended Superintendent Toe for his engagement in the development of Maryland County and expressed confidence in his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure.

Dunnoh further disclosed that plans are underway to pave major roads in the county, although he did not provide a specific implementation timeline.

He also revealed that the Government of Liberia has secured funding for the paving of major highways across the country.

The deputy minister emphasized that achieving the government’s road infrastructure objectives would require sustained cooperation and collective commitment from relevant institutions and citizens.

The engagement comes amid growing calls for improved road connectivity in Maryland County, where better roads are considered important for transportation, commerce, access to public services, and economic activities.

While the deployment of construction equipment represents an intervention in the county’s road sector, residents will be looking for concrete project commitments, implementation timelines, and visible progress on the roads identified for rehabilitation and paving.
