Rep. Cooper Highlights US$27,875 Investment in Sports and Youth Development

MONROVIA, Liberia — Montserrado County District #5 Representative Prescilla Abram Cooper has highlighted approximately US$27,875 in reported investments in sports, youth development, and community football infrastructure as part of her office’s development priorities.

The investments, outlined in Day 12 of her office’s 30 Days, 30 Facts series, cover support for the National District Meet, a district-wide youth tournament, community sporting activities, and improvements to football fields across the district.

According to the information released by her office, US$8,000 was spent supporting the District #5 team during the 2023–2025 National District Meet. The assistance reportedly included jerseys, sports equipment, transportation, and other logistical support.

An additional US$7,500 was allocated to the First Annual District Youth Tournament, which brought together male and female teams from all 18 communities in District #5. The tournament support included jerseys, administrative and logistical assistance, and cash prizes and awards for winning teams.

The office also reported spending approximately US$6,500 on sporting activities across the district, including the distribution of jerseys, footballs, and cash assistance to support local competitions.

Beyond tournament sponsorship, Cooper’s office highlighted infrastructure improvements at several community football fields. The 72nd Community Football Field was reportedly reconditioned and fitted with solar lighting, while solar lights were installed at football fields in Gobachop, Paynesville City Hall, Police Academy, and Pago Island.

The reported cost of the football field improvements was approximately US$5,875.

Combined, the four categories of support represent a reported investment of US$27,875 in sports and related infrastructure.

Sports can provide young people with opportunities to develop discipline, teamwork, and leadership while encouraging peaceful competition and community engagement. Improved sporting facilities and organized tournaments may also help expand access to recreational activities for young people across the district.

The disclosure forms part of the representative’s ongoing public information campaign, which seeks to highlight her office’s activities and development priorities over 30 days.

The figures and activities were provided by the representative’s office; independent verification of the reported expenditures was not included in the information released.
