MONROVIA, Liberia — The United States has renewed its commitment to supporting Liberia’s efforts to strengthen the country’s justice system and uphold the rule of law following a high-level meeting between U.S. Embassy Monrovia Chargé d’Affaires Joe Zadrozny and Liberia’s newly appointed Acting Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Cllr. Betty M. Lamin-Blamo.
The meeting focused on the longstanding justice and rule-of-law partnership between Liberia and the United States, with discussions centered on strengthening Liberia’s justice institutions and promoting principles of fairness, accountability and transparency.
During the engagement, Chargé d’Affaires Zadrozny underscored the United States’ continued willingness to work with Liberia as the country advances reforms within its justice sector.
The U.S. Embassy emphasized that the strengthening of Liberia’s justice institutions remains fundamentally a Liberian-led process, with the responsibility for shaping and improving the country’s institutions resting with Liberians themselves.
According to the U.S. Embassy, Washington’s support is aimed at complementing Liberia’s own efforts to build institutions capable of administering justice fairly and consistently.
A key issue highlighted during the meeting was the importance of ensuring equal application of the law. The United States reiterated its support for a justice system in which individuals are treated equally before the law, irrespective of their political affiliation, social standing, professional position or other status.
The U.S. side also stressed the need for justice institutions to produce fair, transparent and credible outcomes in legal proceedings, noting that public confidence in the justice system depends significantly on the integrity and impartiality of judicial and prosecutorial processes.
The engagement comes as Liberia continues efforts to strengthen democratic governance and the institutions responsible for enforcing the law and protecting citizens’ rights.
The U.S. Embassy said an effective and independent justice sector is an important pillar of Liberia’s democratic development and remains central to the broader relationship between the two countries.
The United States further expressed its intention to maintain close cooperation with the Ministry of Justice as Liberia works to strengthen its justice institutions and advance shared objectives relating to the rule of law.
The meeting between Zadrozny and Lamin-Blamo therefore highlighted the continuing nature of U.S.-Liberia cooperation in the justice sector, while reaffirming the shared interest of both countries in institutions that promote accountability, transparency and equal treatment under the law.
