BEIJING, China — Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25 at the invitation of U.S. President Donald J. Trump, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.
The announcement, issued Monday, said President Xi will hold in-depth discussions with President Trump on major issues concerning China-U.S. relations, as well as matters related to world peace and development.
The three-day visit will bring the two leaders together for their second summit of the year, following President Trump’s state visit to China in May. The talks are expected to address a range of bilateral and international issues, including trade and tariffs, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and wider geopolitical concerns.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun described the reciprocal visits by the two presidents within a six-month period as having “historic, milestone significance.”
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Beijing is prepared to work with Washington to strengthen dialogue and cooperation, manage differences, improve the well-being of the people of both countries, and contribute to international peace, stability and prosperity.
U.S. officials have also indicated that the visit will include a formal welcome and discussions on major economic and technological issues. President Trump is expected to personally greet President Xi upon his arrival in the Washington area, followed by a state ceremony and a state dinner at the White House.
The visit comes amid continuing efforts by Washington and Beijing to manage trade and technology disputes while maintaining high-level diplomatic engagement between the world’s two largest economies.
