Monrovia, Liberia — River Gee County Superintendent Mike T. Swengbe, alongside other county superintendents and senior government officials, has concluded a two-day high-level policy dialogue focused on local governance and decentralization in Liberia.
The meeting, held in Monrovia, brought together representatives of government institutions, County Service Centers, and development partners to review and reach consensus on Liberia’s decentralization policy.
The policy is intended to strengthen local government structures, increase decision-making at the county level, and improve access to basic public services for citizens outside Monrovia.
The discussions were led by Internal Affairs Minister Francis Sakila Nyumalin Sr., with participants examining key areas of the proposed policy and agreeing on the remaining steps required before its adoption.
A Ministerial Committee was subsequently established to refine the policy document and prepare it for official endorsement.
Officials said the formal signing of the Decentralization Policy will be held on a date to be announced.
Speaking following the conclusion of the dialogue, Superintendent Swengbe welcomed the outcome of the discussions, describing the gathering as an important development for Liberia’s local governance system.
“This was a very fruitful two days. We have made great progress in finalizing a policy that will change how government works for our people in the counties. I am confident that once signed, this policy will help us deliver better services to the people of River Gee and all of Liberia,” Swengbe said.
The River Gee County Administration said it remains committed to supporting the implementation of the decentralization framework once formally adopted, while commending the Ministry of Local Government for coordinating the policy process.
