Harper, Maryland County — The Maryland County Local Government has begun preparations for the construction of a new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) county office, following the arrival of an EPA delegation to finalize arrangements and survey land for the proposed facility.
The EPA delegation is being led by D. Carlton Wonsiah, Assistant Director for Logistics, and includes Fred Dehter and officials from the Maryland County EPA Office.
The proposed EPA facility is expected to feature two conference rooms to support training and capacity-building programs, office spaces for EPA personnel, as well as areas dedicated to livelihood and skills-development initiatives for communities affected by coastal defense projects.
Maryland County is one of four coastal counties selected to benefit from the construction of similar EPA facilities under a broader initiative aimed at strengthening environmental protection, community resilience, and climate adaptation along Liberia’s coastline.
Welcoming the EPA delegation, Maryland County Superintendent Nathaniel Toe Jr. reaffirmed the county administration’s commitment to working closely with the agency to facilitate the successful implementation of the project.
Superintendent Toe said the county government has been involved in the project since its early stages, emphasizing the importance of the facility to Maryland County’s environmental and community development efforts.
He also disclosed that residents of Big Town have already provided the required land for the project following an understanding reached among the EPA, the Maryland County Local Government, and members of the community.
The planned office is expected to enhance the EPA’s presence in Maryland County while providing additional space for environmental coordination, training, and community-focused livelihood initiatives.
