Senator Varpilah Urges Lofa Bridge, Kinjor Residents to Prepare for Electricity

Lofa Bridge/Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County — Senator Dabbah M. Varpilah has urged residents of Lofa Bridge and Kinjor in Gola Konneh District to prepare their homes for electricity as the communities are expected to receive power ahead of this year’s Christmas Festival.

Senator Varpilah made the call during a community engagement with a delegation from the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), which visited the two towns to update residents on the ongoing electrification project.

She encouraged homeowners to complete their internal wiring before electricity is connected, stressing that household wiring remains the responsibility of property owners. She also urged residents to use qualified electricians to reduce the risk of electrical shocks, fires and damage to appliances.

Varpilah called on residents to protect the electricity infrastructure by avoiding unauthorized connections and tampering with poles, transformers, meters and distribution lines. She also encouraged citizens to report damaged wires, fallen poles and other electrical hazards to the appropriate authorities.

The Senator reminded residents that electricity service also comes with the responsibility to pay for consumption, encouraging prepaid-meter customers to maintain sufficient credit to avoid interruptions.

According to the LEC delegation, the project is government-supported, with the poles, wires, transformers and meters already procured. The broader electrification initiative is valued at approximately US$5.4 million and is intended to expand electricity access in parts of Liberia.

Varpilah also used the gathering to emphasize the importance of responsible national leadership, telling residents that Liberia needs leaders capable of making mature and thoughtful decisions in the national interest. She cited the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai in highlighting the link between leadership and development.

The engagement brought together residents, traditional leaders, local authorities and LEC representatives. District Commissioner Alfred G. Varney and the Paramount Chief of Gola Konneh Chiefdom welcomed the delegation.

The planned electrification of Lofa Bridge and Kinjor is expected to support households, businesses, education and other community activities as residents prepare for the Christmas Festival.
