Monrovia, Liberia – The announcement by Local Government Minister Hon. Francis Sakillah Nyumalin of a donation of 30 motorbikes and L$250,000 to commercial motorcyclists in Foya District has been welcomed by many beneficiaries. However, the gesture has also raised legitimate questions about the source of the funds used for the donation.
According to information released from the event, 15 motorbikes and L$250,000 were distributed among five motorcyclist bases, with each base receiving three motorbikes and L$50,000. The Minister also announced that an additional 15 motorbikes would be presented to individual beneficiaries, bringing the total number of motorbikes distributed to 30.
While the donation is expected to improve transportation services and support the livelihoods of commercial riders, no public explanation has been provided regarding whether the motorbikes and cash were financed through the Minister’s personal resources, private donors, or an official government program.
In the interest of transparency and public accountability, it is reasonable for citizens and the media to seek clarification on the source of the funding. If the donation was made with personal resources, stating so would help eliminate speculation.
