NOCAL Clarifies Legal Dispute Involving Former Employees

Monrovia, Liberia — The National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) has clarified reports concerning a legal dispute involving two former employees and claims dating back to 2015.

NOCAL Head of Public Affairs, Eugene Tuan-wleh Williams, said recent reports did not accurately present the nature of the matter before the Commercial Court.

According to Williams, the case involves claims by two former employees over bonuses they allege are owed to them. While acknowledging that the dispute has gone through judicial proceedings and settlement arrangements, he said it would be inaccurate to describe the claims as debts owed by NOCAL.

Williams further stated that NOCAL has not received any court directive requiring it to suspend its operations. He said the company remains fully operational and continues to perform its statutory responsibilities under Liberian law.

He emphasized that NOCAL respects the judiciary and remains committed to resolving legitimate claims through lawful and appropriate processes.

Williams also urged media institutions to carefully verify court-related information and seek clarification from all parties involved before publication.

He said inaccurate or incomplete reporting could create unnecessary public concern, mislead stakeholders and affect public confidence in the institution.

Williams reaffirmed NOCAL’s recognition of the media’s role in promoting transparency and accountability, while encouraging the public, stakeholders and development partners to rely on verified information and official communications regarding the company’s affairs.
