Capitol Hill, Liberia – Tensions flared at the Liberian Senate on Tuesday after Bong County Senator Nathaniel F. McGill reportedly called for the imprisonment of Liberia Rural Renewable Energy Agency (LRREA) Executive Director Samuel Nagbe over a series of Facebook posts criticizing the Senate’s handling of the reported US$19 million cocaine investigation.
Nagbe appeared before the Senate to respond to questions regarding social media posts in which he accused the Upper House of interfering with the ongoing investigation and departing from its constitutional oversight responsibilities.
In his Facebook posts, Nagbe alleged that the Senate’s actions risked undermining the integrity of the investigation into the high-profile drug seizure, arguing that lawmakers were overstepping their oversight mandate.
During the proceedings, Senator McGill expressed strong dissatisfaction with Nagbe’s comments, reportedly stating, “The man supposed to go to jail,” while lawmakers debated whether the LRREA Executive Director’s statements amounted to contempt of the Senate.
The hearing sparked extensive discussions among senators, with members deliberating on what action, if any, should be taken against Nagbe over his public remarks.
The Senate has not yet announced a final decision, as deliberations on the matter remain ongoing.
