MONROVIA, Liberia — Margibi County Representative aspirant, Hon. Gus Harris, has praised the Unity Party-led government for what he described as a strong and ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse in Liberia.
Harris said the government’s intensified efforts to combat illegal drugs demonstrate its commitment to protecting Liberian communities, particularly young people who remain vulnerable to the devastating effects of drug abuse.
According to him, the government deserves public support for taking concrete steps to confront the country’s growing drug problem and disrupt activities of individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
“Actually, I have not forgotten you, but what I’m expecting has not reached me. How can I instruct you to continue when I have not yet received what I am expecting?” Harris said in a separate clarification regarding a previous commitment.
The Margibi lawmaker aspirant, however, maintained that his position on the government’s anti-drug campaign remains clear, stressing that the fight against narcotics should be treated as a national responsibility beyond political differences.
Harris urged Liberians to support efforts aimed at reducing drug trafficking and substance abuse, while encouraging relevant authorities to sustain the campaign and ensure that those involved in the illegal trade are held accountable.
His comments come amid heightened national attention on the government’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking under the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
