Koung Denounces Drug-Related Allegations, Describes Claims as Misleading and Politically Motivated

MONROVIA, Liberia — Vice President Jeremiah Koung has forcefully rejected allegations linking him to individuals allegedly connected to the reported US$19 million drug case, describing the claims as misleading, unfounded, and an attempt to distort public perception.

The allegations, raised by journalist Rodney Sieh, called for clarification over photographs showing the Vice President in the company of persons reportedly under investigation for alleged drug-related activities.

In a firm response, Vice President Koung stated that the images being circulated were taken during routine public and private engagements, where he interacts with numerous citizens, officials, and political associates in the course of his duties.

He stressed that such interactions should not be misrepresented as evidence of personal knowledge, association, or endorsement of any individual’s alleged criminal conduct.

The Vice President further clarified that he does not know one of the individuals specifically referenced in the allegations, dismissing any suggestion of a direct link as false and misleading.

Reiterating his stance on the national fight against drug-related crimes, Koung maintained that anyone—regardless of family ties, friendship, or political connection—found guilty of involvement in illegal drug activities should face the full force of the law without exception.

He cautioned against what he described as “reckless interpretations” of photographs and public appearances, warning that such narratives risk undermining reputations and distracting from genuine efforts to combat drug trafficking in Liberia.
