MONROVIA, Liberia — James Lawrence Hinneh, President of the National Customs Brokers Association of Liberia, has declared his intention to contest the Montserrado County District #14 representative seat in the 2029 general elections, following a community outreach walk that attracted hundreds of residents and supporters.
Hinneh announced his political ambition on Sunday during a walk through the district, visiting United Brothers Block and several communities across Clara Town and Bushrod Island. The activity allowed him to interact with residents and discuss the importance of community engagement and public service.
The announcement signals Hinneh’s intention to enter the race for a legislative seat currently held by Representative Kerkula Muka Kamara, who won the district in the 2023 elections.
During the walk, Hinneh expressed gratitude for the reception he received, describing the turnout as a source of encouragement as he pursues his ambition of representing the district.
“Today, I walked through District #14, and honestly, I was deeply humbled by the overwhelming love and support I received,” Hinneh said.
He emphasized that his interest in representing the district is grounded in the belief that effective leadership requires more than public promises. According to him, leaders must remain accessible to residents, listen to their concerns, understand their needs, and work toward practical solutions to the challenges facing their communities.
“Leadership is not just about making promises; it is about being present, listening to the people, understanding their needs, and working toward meaningful change,” he stated.
Hinneh extended appreciation to everyone who participated in the community walk, acknowledging their presence, encouragement, and support. He conveyed the message on behalf of the James Hinneh Foundation, his family, and Team Hinneh.

He also used the analogy of building a house to explain his perspective on pursuing long-term goals, noting that the process often involves criticism, difficulties, and uncertainty before the desired results become visible.
“People may question the process, but when the house is completed, they admire the results,” Hinneh said, emphasizing the importance of consistency, service, and dedication.
Community Engagement and Legislative Ambition
Hinneh’s declaration places his prospective candidacy among the political developments to watch in District #14 as the country approaches the 2029 general elections.
The district, located in Montserrado County, includes communities across the Clara Town and Bushrod Island areas. As the electoral period draws closer, prospective candidates will have opportunities to communicate their priorities and present their approaches to addressing the needs of their constituents.
For Hinneh, the recent walk served as a public engagement activity through which he expressed appreciation for residents and underscored his commitment to maintaining contact with the communities he hopes to represent.
However, his statement did not outline a detailed legislative platform or identify specific policy proposals addressing issues such as roads, sanitation, education, healthcare, youth employment, and access to basic services. These remain important areas for voters to examine as prospective candidates explain their plans for the district.
Hinneh has also not announced a political party affiliation in the statement accompanying his declaration.
Looking Ahead to 2029
As President of the National Customs Brokers Association of Liberia, Hinneh brings his professional leadership role into the public discussion surrounding his legislative ambition. His planned candidacy will provide an opportunity for residents to assess his experience, public engagement, and proposals for representing their interests in the House of Representatives.
His community outreach message places particular emphasis on accessibility, listening to residents, and demonstrating commitment through service rather than relying on promises alone.
The coming months and years will provide a clearer picture of his political plans, including his party affiliation, campaign organization, and proposed legislative priorities.
For now, Hinneh has made his intention to contest the District #14 seat known, while emphasizing unity, community engagement, and dedication as central themes of his approach to public service.
