MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has taken another step toward upgrading Liberia’s electricity metering system with the arrival of 14,500 smart meters for deployment under its ongoing Smart Metering Program.
The meters are expected to support LEC’s efforts to improve the monitoring and management of electricity consumption, with the initial rollout focused on Paynesville and surrounding feeders.
LEC says a further 60,000 smart meters are expected to arrive within the next month, significantly expanding the corporation’s capacity to introduce smart metering to additional customers.
The program is being implemented in collaboration with SENAPT and is designed to provide more effective monitoring of electricity usage while improving the accuracy and efficiency of customer metering.
According to LEC, the expanded use of smart meters is also intended to strengthen revenue protection, address commercial losses and assist efforts to curb illegal electricity connections and other forms of unauthorized consumption.
The corporation views the initiative as part of its broader modernization efforts aimed at improving electricity distribution and strengthening service delivery to customers.
With the additional meters expected in the coming weeks, LEC is preparing for a wider implementation of smart metering as it continues efforts to improve the efficiency and sustainability of Liberia’s electricity sector.
