MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Montserrado County District 15 Representative aspirant Rev. Philip S. Blamo has expressed deep concern over what he describes as the growing culture of political immaturity and intolerance among certain politicians and their supporters in Liberia, warning that such behavior poses a serious threat to the country’s democratic development.
According to Rev. Blamo, the quality of Liberia’s political discourse has deteriorated as personal attacks, insults, and character assassination increasingly replace constructive debate on issues of national importance.
“It is deeply concerning that some individuals who actively participate in national discussions demonstrate little understanding of democratic governance, constitutional principles, and the responsibilities of public leadership,” Rev. Blamo stated. “Yet, they continue to dominate public conversations while promoting misinformation, intolerance, and political division.”
He emphasized that democracy flourishes through informed debate, mutual respect, accountability, and the free exchange of ideas—not through intimidation, propaganda, or the vilification of opposing viewpoints.
Rev. Blamo further criticized the growing tendency to celebrate individuals whose political conduct undermines democratic values rather than promotes responsible leadership.
“When society elevates political hostility above competence, integrity, and statesmanship, it weakens public confidence in democratic institutions and discourages meaningful civic participation,” he noted.
The District 15 representative aspirant urged political leaders, supporters, and citizens alike to reject politics driven by hatred and personal attacks and instead embrace a culture of civility, intellectual engagement, and policy-driven dialogue.
He stressed that Liberia’s future depends not on political noise or partisan confrontation, but on visionary leadership committed to constitutional governance, national unity, accountability, and sustainable development.
Rev. Blamo concluded by calling on all Liberians to rise above political polarization and work collectively to strengthen the nation’s democracy through respectful engagement, informed public discourse, and leadership that places the interests of Liberia above personal ambition and partisan politics.
