Rep. Alex Noah Pushes for Magisterial Court in Seekon as House Refers Bill to Two Committees

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Sinoe County Electoral District #3 Representative Alex S. Noah is seeking the establishment of a Magisterial Court in Seekon Statutory District to improve access to justice and reduce the difficulties residents face in obtaining judicial services.

The proposed Seekon Magisterial Court Act of 2026, introduced by Representative Noah, was read during Tuesday’s plenary session of the House of Representatives, November 3, 2026, before being referred to two committees for review.

The House subsequently forwarded the proposed legislation to its Committees on Judiciary and Local Government and Good Governance, giving them two weeks to examine the bill and submit their recommendations.

In his communication to Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, Representative Noah called on his colleagues to support the proposed legislation, describing the establishment of the court as an important step toward bringing judicial services closer to the people of Seekon.

The lawmaker cited information from the Legislative Information System (LIGIS), which estimates the district’s population at approximately 5,999 residents. He also pointed to the district’s extensive geographical coverage, with several communities located across two administrative districts.

Representative Noah argued that the absence of a nearby magisterial court creates significant difficulties for residents seeking legal remedies, forcing some to travel considerable distances to access judicial institutions.

He believes the proposed court would provide a more accessible legal forum for addressing eligible civil and criminal cases while strengthening the administration of justice within the district.

The lawmaker further maintained that establishing the court would extend beyond improving access to legal services, noting its potential contribution to public security, the protection of individual rights and the promotion of economic activities.

He described the proposed legislation as an investment in justice, peace, security and economic development, while emphasizing the importance of extending constitutional governance and judicial services to communities outside major population centers.

The referral marks the beginning of the bill’s legislative review process. The two committees are expected to examine its provisions and report their findings to the full House within the stipulated two-week period before further action is considered.
