Nimba Senator Pledges Support for Bong County University

By Sally S. Bryant Jr.

GBARNGA, Bong County — Nimba County Senator Nyan D. Twayeh has pledged to join Bong County Senators Prince Kermue Moye Sr. and Johnny K. Kpehe in advocating for increased government support for Bong County University (BCU) to strengthen its operations and sustain its academic programs.

Senator Twayeh made the commitment Friday while serving as guest speaker at the inauguration of the university’s third Student Union in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Twayeh, who serves on the Liberian Senate Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Budget, said he would work with his Bong County colleagues to advance the institution’s needs through the national budget process.

His pledge comes as BCU President Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah continues to seek additional resources to address the university’s operational challenges and support its academic activities.

The proposed collaboration signals a cross-county legislative effort to strengthen the institution’s financial capacity and promote higher education. However, any increase in the university’s allocation will depend on legislative deliberations, available government resources, and final approval of the national budget.

Public universities in Liberia rely significantly on government appropriations to maintain academic programs, meet administrative expenses, and improve institutional infrastructure. Additional support could help BCU address its pressing needs and enhance its contribution to higher education.

Meanwhile, the inauguration of the university’s third Student Union marks a new chapter in student representation. The newly inaugurated leadership is expected to work with the administration to promote student welfare, address student concerns, and contribute to the institution’s overall development.

Although Senator Twayeh’s pledge offers encouragement to the university’s leadership, the amount of any additional allocation remains undetermined as the national budget process continues.
