Mining Sector Contributes US$432 Million to Liberia’s US$1 Billion Revenue Milestone, LRA Says

MONROVIA, Liberia — Liberia’s mining sector contributed approximately US$432 million to the country’s US$1 billion revenue milestone, underscoring its significance to domestic revenue mobilization, according to Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah.

Jallah made the disclosure during the fourth edition of the Government Town Hall program, Kapa Kulono, held in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, on October 15, 2026. The event was held under the theme, “Beyond the Boom: Transparency, Value Addition and Sustainable Fiscal Impact.”

Speaking during a panel discussion titled “From Extraction to Transformation: The Mining Sector’s Role in Liberia’s $1 Billion Revenue Milestone,” Jallah emphasized the need for effective revenue administration, transparency, and compliance to ensure that economic activities contribute meaningfully to national development.

According to the LRA chief, Liberia surpassed the US$1 billion revenue collection threshold in September 2026, with the mining sector accounting for approximately 41 percent of the amount collected.

He also outlined the country’s revenue growth in recent years, noting that collections increased from approximately US$612 million in 2023 to US$700 million in 2024 and US$848 million in 2025.

Jallah expressed confidence that the government would meet its 2026 revenue target of approximately US$1.3 billion, citing the continued importance of domestic revenue mobilization.

He said government revenue helps finance key public services and development priorities, including road construction, education, healthcare, and public sector salaries.

The LRA Commissioner General also called for stronger tax administration and enforcement to ensure that businesses and other economic actors meet their statutory tax obligations.

As part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability, Jallah highlighted the Authority’s public revenue dashboard, available at dash.lra.gov.lr.

The online platform provides access to daily revenue collection figures from domestic taxes and customs and allows users to download data for independent analysis.

He encouraged journalists, civil society organizations, researchers, students, and members of the public to use the platform to monitor revenue performance and scrutinize the information published by the Authority.

Meanwhile, Mines and Energy Minister R. Matenokay Tingban stressed the need for Liberia to move beyond exporting raw minerals by promoting local processing, value addition, job creation, and broader economic opportunities for Liberians.

For his part, Col. Abraham S. Kromah, head of the Protect Our Resources Taskforce, called for stronger law enforcement and improved coordination among government institutions to combat illegal operations, protect the environment, and ensure compliance with applicable laws.

The Kapa Kulono town hall was organized by the Ministry of Information as a platform for public engagement on national development issues and government policies.
