Maryland County Allocates US$10,000 to Tubman University Master’s Scholarship Program

HARPER, Maryland County, Liberia — The Maryland County Administration has presented a US$10,000 cheque to William V.S. Tubman University to support tuition payments for 20 students enrolled in the county-sponsored Master’s Scholarship Program.

Presenting the cheque, Superintendent Nathaniel Toe Jr. said the funding reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting the program’s first cohort of postgraduate students and expanding educational opportunities for Maryland County residents.

Toe said the initiative seeks to equip beneficiaries with advanced academic qualifications and professional skills to improve their competitiveness for employment opportunities requiring master’s degrees. He emphasized that investing in postgraduate education is part of the county’s broader effort to develop a skilled workforce capable of contributing to local development.

The superintendent also said the county administration is pursuing additional initiatives aligned with its development priorities and the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda, which identifies education as a key pillar of national development.

The scholarship program is intended to widen access to postgraduate studies while building a pool of qualified professionals who can contribute to Maryland County’s long-term growth.

The county administration previously appointed Henry Thompson as chairperson of the County Scholarship Committee, which is responsible for mobilizing resources and soliciting financial support to sustain the initiative.
