Expelled Representative Yekeh Kolubah Declares 2029 Presidential Bid, Rules Out Apologizing to President Boakai

MONROVIA, Liberia — In a move that has sent shockwaves across Liberia’s political spectrum, expelled Montserrado County Electoral District #10 Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah has refused to succumb to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. Reaffirming his earlier stance that he will not apologize, Kolubah formally announced his candidacy for the executive seat in the upcoming 2029 presidential election.

Speaking at a packed press conference in Monrovia on Sunday, October 11, the controversially expelled lawmaker declared unequivocally: “I will be a candidate on the Presidential ballot in 2029.”

Rep. Kolubah’s statement came as little surprise to many of his supporters, as he recently completed a nationwide tour of the counties to allow his message to resonate with Liberians across the country.

According to the expelled lawmaker, he intends to remain in the opposition, but he warned that he could ultimately support the ruling Unity Party (UP) because he helped bring President Boakai to power in the first place.

“Don’t be surprised—if the opposition is not serious, I will support the UP,” Kolubah noted, adding: “The day people see the UP’s flag on my vehicles, it means I am supporting President Boakai because I brought him to power.”

Although Kolubah had previously announced that he was returning to Liberia seeking reconciliation, his remarks at the press conference caught many off guard.

While maintaining that he remains a steadfast critic of President Boakai, Kolubah indicated he would still honor an invitation from the executive branch if summoned.

“You know President Boakai is my papay [father figure]. When he calls me, I will go, but I will never call him to apologize,” Kolubah stated.
