MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Montserrado County District #3 Representative Sumo Kollie Mulbah is seeking greater transparency in government compensation, calling for a comprehensive breakdown of monthly salaries and benefits received by senior public officials earning more than US$5,000.
Mulbah made the proposal during the House of Representatives’ sitting on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, requesting the Minister of Finance to submit a detailed report on the compensation packages of ministers, directors, governors, commissioners, and other senior officials whose monthly earnings and benefits exceed the threshold.
The proposed report would detail basic salaries, housing allowances, fuel allocations, logistical support, additional medical benefits, and other financial or in-kind privileges provided at public expense.
Mulbah also wants the report to identify the legal instruments authorizing these payments, enabling lawmakers to assess whether the compensation packages are legally grounded and consistent with established government policies.
The proposal comes as the Legislature prepares to scrutinize public expenditure and government compensation ahead of the 2027 fiscal year. Mulbah’s request could give lawmakers a clearer picture of the cost of compensating senior officials and help identify opportunities to strengthen fiscal accountability.
Following deliberations on Mulbah’s communication and a separate proposal from Nimba County District #7 Representative Musa Hassan Bility, the House mandated its joint committees on Ways, Means and Finance and Public Accounts and Expenditure to review the proposals and report to Plenary within two weeks.
The committees’ findings are expected to guide further legislative consideration of government compensation, spending priorities, and potential measures to improve accountability.
