MONROVIA, Liberia — The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has partnered with international trade technology company Webb Fontaine to improve compliance with marine cargo insurance requirements and strengthen oversight of shipping and customs operations in Liberia.
The collaboration is intended to promote transparency in cargo clearance, enhance monitoring of insurance compliance, and help safeguard government revenue generated through international trade.
Paul Onana Enana, Sales Africa Officer-in-Charge at Webb Fontaine, outlined the objectives of the partnership, highlighting its role in supporting cargo clearance operations at the Freeport of Monrovia and protecting the state’s revenue interests.
Speaking on behalf of the LRA, Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah stressed the importance of efficient customs administration to Liberia’s economic development.
Jallah said the Authority’s mandate goes beyond collecting revenue to include facilitating legitimate trade and ensuring the integrity of customs procedures.
The partnership is part of broader efforts to strengthen customs enforcement, improve oversight of marine cargo insurance requirements, and encourage compliance among businesses and other stakeholders operating in Liberia’s shipping and trade sectors.
Its effectiveness will depend on implementation, monitoring, and compliance by the relevant parties as authorities work to improve transparency and accountability in the country’s customs system.
