ACCRA, Ghana — The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) is set to provide technical support to The Gambia as the country moves to strengthen the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of government revenue through a new digital platform.
The initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Engagement between the LRA and Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) on the sidelines of the 8th West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) High-Level Policy Dialogue and 23rd General Assembly in Accra.
The agreement was signed by LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah and his Gambian counterpart, Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe, establishing a framework for technical cooperation between the two institutions.
Under the arrangement, Liberia will share its experience in operating an online revenue dashboard to assist The Gambia with the development of its own revenue monitoring platform.
The LRA’s support will cover the design of the dashboard, integration with existing systems, analysis of revenue information, and training for personnel responsible for operating and managing the system.
The cooperation will also include the exchange of technical knowledge and measures aimed at protecting sensitive revenue data.
Commissioner General Jallah described the agreement as an opportunity to strengthen African-led solutions in tax administration, saying closer cooperation among revenue institutions can help countries improve their ability to mobilize domestic resources.
He stressed the importance of regional partnerships in advancing digital transformation and developing practical approaches to revenue administration.
GRA Commissioner General Darboe welcomed Liberia’s contribution, noting that the LRA had previously assisted The Gambia in strengthening its post-clearance audit system.
He said the latest engagement further demonstrates the value of South-South cooperation, particularly in enabling African institutions to share expertise and build stronger systems using knowledge developed within the continent.
WATAF Executive Secretary Jules Tapsoba also welcomed the partnership, calling for greater collaboration among tax administrations as countries across the region seek more effective ways to improve revenue mobilization.
The agreement represents another step toward increased cooperation among West African revenue authorities, with digital technology and institutional knowledge-sharing emerging as key tools for improving public revenue management.
