Monrovia, Liberia: Deputy Director for Operations of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), Col. Edwin P. Tisdell, has commended the lawmaker for Montserrado County District #2 for championing the establishment of a fire station in the district, describing the initiative as a significant investment in public safety and emergency preparedness.
Speaking during the commissioning and dedication of the facility, Col. Tisdell said the establishment of a fire station goes beyond the construction of a physical structure, noting that it brings emergency services closer to residents and provides the potential for faster intervention during fires and other emergencies.
He conveyed the support of LNFS Director General Hon. G. Warsuwah Barvoul Sr., who, according to Col. Tisdell, places considerable importance on expanding fire and emergency response services to communities across Liberia.
While recognizing the role of the district lawmaker in initiating and advancing the project, Col. Tisdell stressed that the facility should ultimately be regarded as a community asset.
He called on residents, community leaders, youth organizations and other stakeholders to protect the facility, respect its purpose and ensure that it remains available to serve the people of District #2 for years to come.
Col. Tisdell also drew attention to the employment and professional development opportunities associated with expanding fire services.
He explained that fire stations are generally expected to operate with a staffing complement of approximately 24 to 36 personnel, potentially creating opportunities for young Liberians in areas including firefighting, emergency response, technical training and public service.
According to the LNFS official, the initiative demonstrates how elected representatives can translate their responsibilities into tangible projects that directly affect the lives and safety of constituents.
“Fire knows no political party. Fire knows no social class,” Col. Tisdell emphasized, noting that fire emergencies can affect residents regardless of their political affiliation, economic status or living conditions.
He therefore urged stakeholders to support investments in emergency response infrastructure and to strengthen cooperation between government institutions and communities.
Col. Tisdell described the availability of a fire truck in District #2 as another important development, expressing his personal pride in the progress.
“District #2 is my heartbeat,” he said, while encouraging residents to safeguard the equipment and infrastructure provided to the district.
He also urged young people to consider firefighting and emergency response as honorable career paths and called for continued collaboration across political and social lines to make District #2 safer and better prepared to respond to emergencies.
Col. Tisdell concluded by reaffirming the Liberia National Fire Service’s support for the expansion of emergency services and encouraging residents to take collective responsibility for protecting the new facility and ensuring that it serves its intended purpose.
