Monrovia, Liberia — President of the National Customs Brokers Association of Liberia, James L. Hinneh, has been credited with helping restore electricity to four communities in District #14, Montserrado County, following months of power disruption.
The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has restored power to Ma Mary Yard, Hope Community, Success Community, and Jonah Island in Doe Community after residents spent approximately six months without electricity due to the absence of transformers.
Hinneh was present as electricity was restored, marking the outcome of advocacy efforts aimed at addressing the prolonged power outage affecting residents.
The development has brought relief to residents, with Hinneh describing the restoration as a demonstration of what community-focused leadership and persistent advocacy can achieve when they are directed toward addressing practical challenges.
He said leadership should go beyond promises and public declarations, emphasizing the need for leaders to identify problems, engage relevant institutions and pursue solutions that directly improve people’s lives.
“As a young leader committed to community development, I believe leadership is not about making promises; it is about identifying problems, advocating for solutions, and ensuring that progress reaches ordinary people,” Hinneh said.
Hinneh expressed appreciation to the Liberia Electricity Corporation and others who contributed to resolving the situation, while emphasizing the need for continued efforts to address infrastructure and basic service challenges across District #14.
He said the restoration of electricity should serve as motivation to pursue further improvements in the district and other communities across Liberia.
“Today, the lights are back on. Tomorrow, we must work even harder to keep the light of hope, opportunity, and progress burning,” Hinneh added.
The restoration is expected to provide renewed opportunities for households, businesses and other community activities that rely on dependable electricity.
