Grand Bassa to Lead Rollout of First Lady’s ‘Her Voice, Her Future’ Initiative as Superintendent Johnson Pledges Full Support

Buchanan, Grand Bassa– Grand Bassa County Superintendent Hon. Karyou Johnson has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing adolescent health and empowerment by partnering with the Office of the First Lady of Liberia to implement “Her Voice, Her Future,” a flagship initiative championed by First Lady H.E. Kartumu Yarta Boakai in collaboration with the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

The commitment was made during a coordination meeting held Monday at the Executive Mansion, where both parties discussed strategies to ensure the successful rollout of the program in Grand Bassa County.

Designed to improve adolescent health outcomes, the initiative will establish 50 Adolescent Reproductive Health Clubs across Montserrado, Bomi, Margibi, Nimba, and Grand Bassa Counties, reaching more than 12,000 in-school adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19. The program will provide participants with comprehensive health education, life-skills training, and increased access to youth-friendly health services.

Speaking following the meeting, Superintendent Johnson praised First Lady Boakai for spearheading what he described as a transformative initiative that addresses some of the most pressing challenges affecting adolescent girls and young people across Liberia.

He said the program will equip young people—particularly adolescent girls—with accurate health information, practical life skills, and the confidence to make informed decisions about their education, health, and future, while helping to reduce vulnerabilities that hinder their development.

Superintendent Johnson also welcomed the selection of Grand Bassa as one of the pilot counties, describing it as a recognition of the county’s commitment to promoting youth development and expanding opportunities for young people to thrive.

The official Grand Bassa County launch of “Her Voice, Her Future” is scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Unification Pavilion in Buchanan.

Ahead of the launch, a Training of Trainers (TOT) program will be held on Wednesday, August 19, bringing together adolescent girls and education stakeholders to prepare them to establish and effectively manage the Adolescent Reproductive Health Clubs.

The initiative represents a major investment in adolescent health and well-being, reinforcing the Government’s broader commitment to empowering young people with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to make informed choices and build healthier, more productive futures.
