MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Minister of Finance and Development Planning Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has urged government institutions to demonstrate greater urgency, accountability, and coordination in implementing infrastructure projects funded through the national budget.
Minister Ngafuan made the call Monday during a “Deep Dive” engagement with the Ministry of Public Works, emphasizing that the exercise should move beyond routine presentations and statistics to address the practical challenges slowing budget execution and project implementation.
According to Minister Ngafuan, the engagement is designed to give government a clearer assessment of how public resources are being utilized and whether budgetary allocations are producing visible and meaningful development outcomes for citizens.
For his part, Public Works Minister Roland Lafayette Giddings welcomed the engagement, stressing the need for stronger cooperation between the two ministries. He highlighted key areas requiring closer coordination, including budget execution, project financing, procurement, monitoring, and ensuring that funds allocated to the Ministry of Public Works translate into measurable results.
The meeting brought together senior officials and technical teams from both ministries, including MFDP Deputy Minister for Fiscal Affairs Anthony G. Myers, Deputy Minister for Economic Management Dehpue Y. Zuo, and Assistant Minister for Budget Sarah Mulbah.
Representing the Ministry of Public Works were Deputy Minister for Administration Samukai Dunor and Assistant Minister for Planning, Program and Research Abraham Rahim Bility, among other senior officials and technical personnel.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen coordination, improve public financial management, and accelerate the implementation of development projects across Liberia.
