BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County: The Government of Liberia has dedicated a newly constructed public school in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, in a move aimed at easing overcrowding at Bassa High School and expanding access to quality education in the county.
The dedication ceremony was led by Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., who described the project as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to improving educational infrastructure across the country.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Jallah said the new school represents the government’s determination to provide a better learning environment for Liberian students. She emphasized that while modern classrooms are essential, quality education also requires qualified teachers, adequate teaching and learning materials, and safe, supportive environments where students can excel.
“The Government remains committed to strengthening public education through sustained investments in school infrastructure and improving the quality of teaching and learning across Liberia,” the Education Minister said.
Dr. Jallah praised the Grand Bassa County Legislative Caucus and the County Council for financing the project, describing their support as a significant contribution to the county’s educational development. She also commended the World Basic Group of Companies for completing the construction ahead of schedule.
Receiving the keys to the facility on behalf of President Boakai and the Government of Liberia, Dr. Jallah assured residents that the Ministry of Education would continue collaborating with county authorities and development partners to further enhance the campus and improve educational outcomes for students.
The newly dedicated school is expected to significantly reduce congestion at Bassa High School while creating additional opportunities for students to access quality education.
The ceremony attracted a cross-section of government officials, lawmakers, education stakeholders, traditional leaders, students, and community members, who gathered to celebrate what officials described as another milestone in Liberia’s efforts to strengthen its education sector and invest in the future of its young people.
