NEW BRIGHTON, USA – Liberian-American community advocate A Patrick Sowah has officially declared his candidacy for the New Brighton City Council, launching what could become a historic campaign to become the first Liberian ever elected to the city’s governing body.
The municipal election is scheduled for November 3, 2026, and Sowah says his campaign is driven by a commitment to public service, inclusive leadership, and meaningful community representation.
In announcing his bid, Sowah acknowledged the significance of the moment, noting that no Liberian has previously won a seat on the New Brighton City Council.
Despite the challenge, he expressed unwavering confidence, saying faith and perseverance can overcome even the greatest obstacles.
”It may seem impossible, but my God is capable of making the impossible possible,” Sowah declared. “My responsibility is to remain humble, respectful, kind, and prayerful while serving the people with integrity.”
As his campaign gains momentum, Sowah is calling on supporters to help build a 20-member volunteer campaign team to mobilize voters, engage residents, and share his vision for the future of New Brighton.
He also appealed to members of the Liberian diaspora and the wider community to spread the word about his candidacy, describing the campaign as an opportunity not only to make history but also to strengthen the voice and representation of immigrant communities in local government.
If successful in the November election, Patrick Sowah would become the first Liberian-American elected to the New Brighton City Council, marking a historic milestone for the Liberian community and opening a new chapter in its growing civic and political participation in the United States.
