AITB LAUNCHES ENUMERATORS TRAINING FOR NATIONWIDE TVET MAPPING EXERCISE TO STRENGTHEN SKILLS DEVELOPMENT IN LIBERIA‎

Monrovia, Liberia – The Agricultural and Industrial Training Bureau (AITB) has begun a comprehensive training program for enumerators ahead of a nationwide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Mapping Exercise, an initiative designed to provide a clearer picture of Liberia’s technical skills development landscape.

‎The training exercise, being conducted under the leadership of AITB Director General Abraham Billy, is aimed at preparing field data collectors with the skills and knowledge required to gather accurate and reliable information from TVET institutions across the country.

‎The nationwide mapping exercise is expected to identify, document, and assess technical and vocational training institutions, including their available programs, infrastructure, equipment, instructors, student enrollment, and operational challenges.

‎Speaking during the commencement of the training, Director General Abraham Billy highlighted the importance of having reliable data to guide decision-making and investment in Liberia’s TVET sector.

‎He said the mapping exercise will provide government, development partners, and stakeholders with essential information needed to improve vocational education planning, expand training opportunities, and ensure that skills development programs respond to the needs of the labor market.

‎“Without accurate data, it becomes difficult to properly plan, allocate resources, and address the challenges facing technical and vocational education,” officials noted, emphasizing the need for a strong database of TVET institutions nationwide.

‎The AITB Director General explained that the exercise forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Liberia’s workforce development system by improving access to quality skills training and creating pathways for young people to acquire employable skills.

‎Liberia’s TVET sector has long been viewed as a critical component in addressing unemployment, promoting entrepreneurship, and reducing dependence on traditional academic pathways. However, challenges such as limited training facilities, inadequate equipment, and gaps between training programs and industry demands have continued to affect the sector.

‎Through the mapping exercise, AITB intends to gather firsthand information that will help identify these challenges and support targeted interventions to improve the quality and relevance of technical and vocational education across the country.

‎The trained enumerators will be deployed to various counties to collect data from registered and non-registered TVET institutions, ensuring that the assessment captures the full scope of skills training providers operating in Liberia.

‎Stakeholders believe the initiative will contribute significantly to the creation of a stronger TVET system capable of preparing Liberians, especially young people, for employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and national development.

‎The Agricultural and Industrial Training Bureau, under the leadership of Director General Abraham Billy, continues to position skills development as a key driver of economic empowerment and inclusive growth, with the TVET Mapping Exercise expected to serve as a foundation for future reforms and investments in the sector.
