Minister Nuetah Engages Nimba Farmers, Reaffirms Commitment to “Liberians Feed Yourselves” Drive

NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia — Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah has commenced a two-day field engagement in Nimba County as part of efforts to promote the government’s “Liberians Feed Yourselves” program, aimed at boosting local food production and strengthening the agricultural sector.

The visit began in Manbor Town, Electoral District #3, where the Minister inspected cassava farms and lowland rice fields while interacting directly with farmers on developments in the sector. Discussions focused on key challenges affecting productivity, including inadequate access to farming inputs, tools, and processing equipment.

Commending farmers for their dedication, Dr. Nuetah encouraged them to intensify production and continue their vital role in ensuring national food security. “I am here first to express appreciation, but also to encourage you to continue and expand the good work you are doing,” he said.

He stressed that the success of Liberia’s agricultural transformation depends heavily on farmers’ active participation, noting that government policies and interventions alone cannot achieve the desired results.
“Agriculture will only succeed if farmers make it work. The government can provide support and policy direction, but the real impact comes from the farmers,” he emphasized.

The Minister also praised women farmers for their significant contribution to agricultural production, particularly in rural communities, describing them as a key pillar of the sector. “Women represent a large share of the agricultural workforce, especially in rural areas, and their input is crucial to shaping agricultural development,” he noted.

Dr. Nuetah further assured farming communities of government’s continued commitment to strengthening extension services, expanding technical support, and responding to their priority needs under the “Liberians Feed Yourselves” initiative.

He reaffirmed that the Ministry remains focused on working closely with farmers to increase output and enhance national food self-sufficiency.
