MONROVIA, Liberia – The Resident Bishop of the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, Bishop Samuel J. Quire Jr., has called on Liberians to embrace unity, peace and shared responsibility as the nation marks its 179th Independence Anniversary.
In his Independence Day message, Bishop Quire extended greetings and blessings to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, members of the three branches of government, the diplomatic community, security institutions, religious leaders and Liberians at home and abroad.
Reflecting on Liberia’s independence, the Bishop urged citizens to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s founders by committing themselves to building a peaceful, just and prosperous country.
“Independence is not only a celebration of our past; it is a call to action for our present and our future,” Bishop Quire said, adding that national progress requires collective commitment, sacrifice and unity rather than the efforts of a few individuals.
He said the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church remains committed to promoting peace, reconciliation, education, healthcare, community development and support for vulnerable populations, stressing that faith must be demonstrated through service to humanity.
Bishop Quire also urged Liberians to safeguard the country’s sovereignty by upholding the rule of law, respecting democratic institutions and promoting accountability, integrity and national cohesion.
According to him, preserving Liberia’s independence is a shared responsibility that demands patriotism and unwavering commitment from every citizen.
The United Methodist prelate further called on Liberians to continue praying for President Boakai, Vice President Koung and other public officials, asking God to grant them wisdom, courage and humility as they lead the country.
Concluding his message, Bishop Quire encouraged citizens to renew their commitment to national development by investing in their communities, supporting one another and working together to build a brighter future for generations to come.
