Chinese Ambassador Urges Liberian Journalists to Promote Objective Reporting, Highlights CPC’s Role in China’s Development

Monrovia, Liberia – Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, YIN Chengwu, has called on Liberian journalists to uphold professionalism, objectivity, and balanced reporting while encouraging them to deepen their understanding of China and its development journey.

Speaking Friday, July 10, at the 7th Induction Ceremony of the Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL), Ambassador Yin congratulated the Association’s newly elected leadership headed by President-elect J.H. Webster Clayeh and praised Liberian journalists for their contributions to the country’s media landscape and for strengthening people-to-people relations between Liberia and China.

The ceremony, held under the theme “Shaping the Future of Liberian Journalism Through Inclusion, Welfare and Reform,” brought together journalists, government officials, diplomats, and development partners to celebrate the induction of the Association’s new leadership.

Ambassador Yin described the RAL as one of Liberia’s most influential media organizations, noting that it has played a significant role in defending press freedom and promoting professional journalism across the country.

He also expressed appreciation to Liberian journalists for reporting on China and China-Liberia relations, saying their work has helped present China to the Liberian public.

Reflecting on a media seminar hosted in China last year, the Ambassador recalled that several members of the newly elected RAL leadership—including President-elect Webster Clayeh, Secretary-General-elect Blamo N. Toe, and Financial Secretary-elect Cynthia Quinisier—visited China for the first time. According to him, many participants returned impressed by China’s rapid modernization and questioned what had driven the country’s remarkable transformation.

In response, Ambassador Yin argued that the key to China’s development has been the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Marking the 105th anniversary of the CPC, he outlined what he described as five defining characteristics of the Party: its commitment to serving the people, courage in overcoming challenges, dedication to self-reform and anti-corruption efforts, adherence to independence and self-reliance, and its global outlook in promoting international cooperation.

He stated that under the CPC’s leadership, China has grown into the world’s second-largest economy, developed extensive education, healthcare, and social security systems, and lifted more than 800 million people out of poverty.

The Chinese envoy also emphasized that the Party’s willingness to reform itself and maintain a zero-tolerance approach to corruption has contributed to its longevity and effectiveness in governance.

Looking beyond China’s domestic achievements, Ambassador Yin said the country continues to advocate for peace, global development, and international cooperation through what he described as the vision of building “a community with a shared future for humanity.”

Addressing Liberian journalists directly, he encouraged members of the media to continue observing China’s development with professional integrity and to provide objective and impartial reporting that promotes greater understanding between the Chinese and Liberian peoples.

“As the story of China continues to unfold, we welcome Liberian journalists to witness and record this ongoing journey with professional insight and objective reporting,” he said.

Ambassador Yin concluded by wishing the newly inducted leadership of the Reporters Association of Liberia success as they assume responsibility for guiding the organization and advancing journalism in Liberia.
