Representative Jerry Yogbo Calls for Dialogue to Resolve House Impasse

MONROVIA, Liberia — Montserrado County District 12 Representative Jerry Korlubah Yogboh Sr. has called on lawmakers to pursue dialogue, accountability and respect for constitutional procedures to resolve the ongoing impasse within the House of Representatives.

In a statement issued Monday, Yogboh emphasized that efforts to end the legislative standoff must prioritize the Constitution, transparency and the interests of the Liberian people.

The lawmaker said his involvement in efforts to resolve the disagreement should not be interpreted as unconditional support for any political faction or individual interest, stressing that his position is guided by his legislative responsibilities and commitment to his constituents.

“My loyalty remains with the Constitution, the Liberian people, and the Republic of Liberia,” he stated.

Yogboh also called for transparent procedures and proper accounting in addressing concerns related to legislative administration, public resources and outstanding financial obligations.

He argued that accountability should be applied fairly and impartially to all public officials, with decisions based on verifiable records and due process.

The District 12 representative urged the leadership of the House and lawmakers involved in the dispute to engage in constructive discussions and agree on a lawful path toward restoring normal legislative operations.

He warned that a prolonged impasse could undermine public confidence in the Legislature and delay its core responsibilities, including lawmaking, oversight, budget consideration and the development of national policies.

According to Yogboh, continued disagreements also risk limiting lawmakers’ ability to address constituents’ concerns and advance development priorities in their respective districts.

He called for immediate and practical steps to resolve the situation peacefully, while encouraging relevant stakeholders and members of the public to support constructive engagement in accordance with the Constitution.

The lawmaker said the objective should extend beyond ending the current disagreement to establishing a resolution that strengthens accountability, restores public confidence and allows the House to carry out its constitutional mandate without unnecessary disruption.

“Accountability must be upheld. The Constitution must be respected. Dialogue must continue. Liberia and its people must come first,” he said.

Yogboh reaffirmed his commitment to exercising his legislative duties independently and with integrity, maintaining that the interests of his constituents and the country should remain central to efforts to resolve the impasse.

His statement did not specify a proposed timetable or outline a concrete agreement to end the standoff, but emphasized dialogue, transparency and constitutional compliance as essential elements of a resolution.
