Monrovia, Liberia — The James Lawrence Hinneh Foundation has officially launched a scholarship program aimed at supporting 100 young people from District 14 to return to school and continue their education.
The scholarship initiative was launched at the Doe Community Clinic in District 14, with the program positioned as part of broader efforts to address financial barriers affecting young people’s access to education.
Speaking during the launch, James Lawrence Hinneh, President of the National Custom Brokers Association and Chief Executive Officer of the James Lawrence Hinneh Foundation, said the initiative reflects his belief that education remains a critical investment in the future of communities and the country.
Hinneh, who described himself as a son of District 14, said financial difficulties should not prevent young people from pursuing their education and achieving their aspirations.
He encouraged the scholarship beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make responsible use of the opportunity provided to them.
According to him, a scholarship represents more than financial support, as it also carries a responsibility for beneficiaries to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their academic development.
Hinneh further said he intends to continue supporting people in need as long as he has the means to do so, describing service to others as an important component of leadership.
“Leadership is not merely about titles or positions; it is about service, sacrifice, and using what we have to improve the lives of others,” he said.
The Foundation expressed hope that the beneficiaries will use the opportunity to build successful careers and eventually contribute to creating opportunities for others.
The scholarship program is expected to provide renewed educational opportunities for the 100 selected young people while contributing to efforts to strengthen access to education in District 14.
The initiative comes as community-based organizations and individuals continue to explore ways of supporting students facing financial challenges in Liberia.
