MARYLAND COUNTY, Liberia — Former senatorial candidate Eric Wlea Giko has announced plans to contest the Maryland County senatorial seat in the 2029 elections, saying he is entering the race to win.
Speaking to journalists during a visit to the county, Giko highlighted what he described as his ongoing contributions to education, infrastructure, electricity and community media.
He cited the completion of a bridge in Zone Five, support for community radio, assistance to nearly 40 students at William V. S. Tubman University and plans to provide educational materials and registration support to students in Barrobo District.
Giko also raised concerns over delays in connecting a transformer installed for electricity service in Barraken, saying he intends to engage residents and relevant authorities on the matter.He rejected reports that he had endorsed the incumbent senator and said he remains focused on his own candidacy.
Giko disclosed that he is currently in discussions with several political parties but has not yet decided which party he will join. “I’m in this race to win it,” Giko declared, pledging to campaign across Maryland County and present his development agenda to voters.
