MONROVIA — SDC Waste Management, a sanitation company owned by Hon. Morris Sheriff, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) and the Borough of New Kru Town to enhance waste management and environmental sanitation across communities in the Liberian capital.
The partnership is expected to support the city’s ongoing efforts to improve waste collection, promote proper waste disposal, and encourage greater community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Speaking during the launch of the collaboration, Hon. Morris Sheriff described environmental sanitation as a shared responsibility that requires the collective efforts of government institutions, the private sector, community leaders, and residents.
”We are here to make sure we have a clean city,” Sheriff said. “Achieving that goal requires partnership, commitment, and the active participation of every citizen. A cleaner Monrovia is not only good for our environment but also essential for public health and sustainable development.”
According to Sheriff, the partnership demonstrates the importance of public-private collaboration in addressing the city’s growing waste management challenges. He noted that SDC Waste Management remains committed to supporting initiatives that improve sanitation services and create healthier communities.
As part of the collaboration, SDC Waste Management will work alongside the Monrovia City Corporation and the Borough of New Kru Town on a range of sanitation activities, including routine community clean-up exercises, waste collection and disposal, public awareness campaigns, and initiatives aimed at encouraging responsible environmental practices among residents.
Sheriff also commended Monrovia Mayor John-Charuk Siafa and the Governor of the Borough of New Kru Town for embracing the partnership and reaffirming their commitment to improving sanitation throughout the city.
”I want to extend my appreciation to the Lord Mayor of Monrovia and the Governor of the Borough of New Kru Town for their leadership and willingness to work together in pursuit of a cleaner city,” he said.
Governor Robert Teah expressed optimism that the collaboration will strengthen sanitation services in New Kru Town and serve as a model for similar partnerships in other communities across Monrovia.
He stressed that poor waste management remains one of the major public health and environmental challenges facing the capital, contributing to clogged drainage systems, flooding during the rainy season, and the spread of preventable diseases.
Organizers believe the partnership represents a significant step toward addressing these challenges by combining the resources and expertise of the public and private sectors while encouraging greater community ownership of sanitation efforts.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote environmental sustainability and improve the quality of life for residents through cleaner neighborhoods, safer public spaces, and more effective waste management systems across Monrovia.
