Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia is taking another significant step toward transforming Providence Island, one of the country’s most historic landmarks, into a premier tourism destination.
As part of ongoing preparations for the Providence Island Design & Build Project, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Hon. Samuel A. Stevquoah, Director-General of the Cabinet Hon. Nathaniel T. Kwabo, Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) Board Chairman Amb. Christopher Hayes Onanuga, and LNTA Director General Hon. Princess Eva Cooper toured the historic site to assess progress and discuss the next phase of development.
The project is designed to preserve Providence Island’s rich historical and cultural heritage while creating a modern tourism experience that highlights Liberia’s unique story. Once completed, the initiative is expected to strengthen the country’s tourism sector, attract local and international visitors, and contribute to economic growth.
Officials emphasized that the development will carefully balance preservation with modernization, ensuring the island remains a symbol of Liberia’s history while serving as a gateway for cultural tourism.
The Providence Island Design & Build Project forms part of the government’s broader efforts to promote Liberia’s heritage, expand tourism opportunities, and position the country as an attractive destination for visitors seeking authentic historical and cultural experiences.
