Monrovia Liberia -The Liberian Government has announced plans to confiscate properties and vehicles allegedly used in connection with the trafficking and storage of narcotics following the country’s largest cocaine seizure.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. Oswald Tweh disclosed that authorities will invoke the Amended Controlled Drug and Substance Act of 2023 to seize assets linked to the illegal drug operation.
The announcement follows Tuesday’s operation in Duazon, Margibi County, where joint security forces intercepted approximately 3,971 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of US$317.68 million.
According to the Justice Minister, the property located in VOA Community along the Roberts International Airport Highway—where the suspected cocaine was discovered during a July 21 search—will be forfeited to the Government. The vehicle allegedly used to transport the narcotics will also be confiscated.
Cllr. Tweh further revealed that investigators have been directed to begin similar forfeiture proceedings against the residence of Mr. Paul King on V.P. Road, which authorities believe was used to store and facilitate the movement of drugs linked to the earlier US$19.2 million cocaine case.
Investigators allege that the residence served as a storage and transit point before the narcotics were transported to Roberts International Airport.
The Government says the move demonstrates its determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks and ensure Liberia does not become a safe haven for international drug syndicates.
