Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Standards Authority (LSA) has announced a nationwide verification and certification exercise for weighing instruments and standard commercial gas stations, scheduled to run from July 21 through August 21, 2026.
According to the LSA, the month-long exercise is aimed at promoting fair trade, ensuring accuracy in commercial transactions, and protecting consumers in line with Chapter 1 of the General Business Law of Liberia. The Authority said the verification exercise will target business owners, traders, operators of weighing instruments, and commercial gas stations across the country. It emphasized that only weighing instruments and gas stations that have successfully passed the verification process and received official certification will be authorized to operate.
The LSA explained that all weighing instruments that meet the required standards will receive an official “TESTED & APPROVED” sticker and a valid Certificate of Verification, confirming that the equipment is accurate and fit for commercial use. However, any instrument that fails the verification test will be removed from service and prohibited from being used in commercial transactions until it meets the required standards.
The Authority also warned that individuals or businesses found using uncertified weighing instruments for trade or commercial purposes will face legal penalties under Liberian law, including the confiscation of the instruments. As part of the nationwide initiative, the Liberia Standards Authority is calling on all businesses, traders, weighing instrument operators, and commercial gas station operators to cooperate fully with verification teams by presenting their equipment for inspection during the designated period.
The LSA said the exercise reflects its commitment to strengthening consumer confidence, promoting transparency in the marketplace, and ensuring that buyers receive the correct quantity of goods and services for which they pay. The Authority reaffirmed its message: “Fair Measurement. Fair Trade. Consumer Protection.”
