Former Maryland Superintendent Henry Cole Officially Hands Power To Successor

Harper, Maryland County — Former Maryland County Superintendent Hon. Henry Cole has officially turned over the affairs of the county to his successor, Hon. Nathaniel Toe Jr., following an induction and turnover ceremony held in Harper on Tuesday.

The ceremony marked the formal transfer of administrative authority after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai appointed and the Liberian Senate confirmed Hon. Nathaniel Toe Jr. as the new Superintendent of Maryland County.

In his farewell remarks, Cole expressed gratitude to President Boakai for the opportunity to serve the people of Maryland County, describing his tenure as an honor and a privilege. He thanked residents, traditional leaders, women, youth, county officials, development partners, and his family for their support throughout his time in office.

Turning over the county’s administration, Cole highlighted several achievements under his leadership, including the near completion of the 4th Judicial Circuit Court, progress on the county bridge project and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) water system, ongoing construction of city halls in Barrobo and Karluway, completion of the Gboloken School and the Superintendent’s residence in Karloken, and the distribution of motorcycles to commissioners to enhance local governance.

Addressing recent public speculation, the outgoing Superintendent maintained that President Boakai had never accused him of wrongdoing and reaffirmed his commitment to serving Maryland County with integrity.

Cole urged citizens to unite behind the new administration, emphasizing that the county’s continued progress depends on collective support rather than political differences.

With the official handover completed,
Nathaniel Toe Jr. has now assumed full responsibility as Superintendent of Maryland County and is expected to lead the county’s development agenda in collaboration with local authorities, national government institutions, and development partners.
