BONG COUNTY, Liberia — Bong County Electoral District #7 Representative Foday E. Fahnbulleh says continued legislative engagement and oversight are yielding positive results for local contracting workers under the concession.
In a statement following his routine meeting with the leadership of local contractors and concession management, Rep. Fahnbulleh noted that sustained advocacy and dialogue have contributed to visible improvements in working conditions and workers’ welfare.
He reported that workers expressed appreciation for ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening respect for their rights and dignity, highlighting a recent public apology issued by a Chinese team leader to a Liberian contractor following an incident of misconduct as an example of improved workplace accountability.
According to him, several welfare and safety measures have also been implemented, including the distribution of safety boots to all contractors and the commencement of raincoat distribution. He further disclosed that contractors who were initially placed on three-month agreements have now been granted an additional six-month contract extension.
Rep. Fahnbulleh also indicated that pending hygiene facilities are expected to be completed before the next monitoring visit, while ongoing train upgrade works are scheduled for completion ahead of the next inspection exercise.
He emphasized that these developments reflect the impact of consistent engagement, principled advocacy, and legislative oversight in improving working conditions.
“This is what effective representation looks like continuous engagement, firm advocacy, and measurable progress that prioritizes the welfare, safety, and dignity of our workers,” he noted.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all commitments made are fully implemented and that the interests of local workers remain a top priority.
